We invest in the communities we serve.

At UMCU, we believe in supporting organizations and events that keep our communities strong. Every one of our team members is committed to making a difference every day.

UMCU is pleased to support Empowerment Plan! Based in Detroit, MI, Empowerment Plan is a non-profit organization with a mission to assist and empower homeless individuals.

First, Empowerment Plan provides employment and training to those individuals and gives them the resources they need to regain their independence. Second, individuals learn how to manufacture durable coats that double as sleeping bags, which are distributed to members of the homeless community worldwide.

To date, Empowerment Plan has distributed over 70,000 of these coats!

For more information on Empowerment Plan, you can check out their website here.

To make a donation, you can call our Contact Center or visit one of our branch locations.
Every year, our summer interns are tasked with creating a meaningful way to give back to the community. In past years our summer interns have launched a food drive benefiting Food Gatherers, a Washtenaw County-based non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger in our community. During this drive, team UMCU donated more than 685 pounds of food – equivalent to 570 meals – for families in need. The drive concluded with a day of action, providing UMCU team members an opportunity to work at the Food Gatherers warehouse, preparing food for delivery!
American Heart Association Heart Walk: Every year, UMCU partners with Michigan Medicine to raise funds for the American Heart Association to help fight heart disease and stroke in the community. Our team members and UMCU members help contribute to the fundraising as well as participate in the annual Washtenaw County Heart Walk/Run.

United Way Stuff the Bus: This year, UMCU donated $1,500 worth of school supplies to United Way of Washtenaw County’s Stuff the Bus Event!
We’re thrilled to launch our 9th annual Shop Local Give Local campaign! It’s your chance to shop for a good cause with UMCU! Every year, we pick a different charity or cause to support and for 2024, the recipient is B2B Trail.

How It Works

From November 1 through December 31, 2024, every time you make a purchase with your UMCU Visa® Platinum Optimum or Visa® Cash Rewards credit card at participating stores, restaurants, or businesses, UMCU matches 1% of the total sales, (up to a grand total of $5,000) and donates it to B2B Trail!

Plus, we’re giving 5 lucky members the chance to win $1,000! Every time you use your UMCU Visa at a business participating in Shop Local Give Local, you’re automatically to win! The more you shop, the more chances you’ll have!
